A record of the renovation of a
Wooden Drascombe Longboat 'Otter'

After doing some more paint stripping to let the damp out of the ply I started on the centreboard case.

I nice coating of GRP on one side!

I stuck a screwdriver behind it and it came away quite easily.

This is the black hole that was left.

What you can see is the GRP sheathing on the inside of the case

This is the back of the GRP slab.

I cut away much of the rotten plywood.

The other side was also rotten.

Now you can see right through.

The rear part was just as rotten.

And finally...

The centreboard winch was made in Nebraska.

Apparently it is not to be used for movement of human beings!
