A record of the renovation of a
Wooden Drascombe Longboat 'Otter'
19th December 2006. Removed paint from hull.
I
used a disc sander on my electric drill and spent several happy days covered
in dust as I sanded off the paint from the hull. Using a sharp scraper
and a heat gun, I scraped off the antifouling.
As I intend to recover the new strakes with glass cloth and epoxy resin I had to expose the edge of the existing GRP sheathing. Then I thought it would be a good idea to strip all the paint down to the cloth and apply an epoxy coating to the lot while I am at it. I will also use epoxy filler to fair down the hull. At the moment you can see a step where the cloth overlaps below (if it is the right way up) the first chine. I will try and fair in all overlaps so that they don't show.
