A record of the renovation of a
Wooden Drascombe Longboat 'Otter'
10th January 2007. Cutting the lady in half.
First
I made a template for the second strake on the starboard side. The templates
for the port garboard strake fitted the starboard side.
Not
quite sawing in half but time to remove the rudder box. I made a template
in hardboard, first.
There
doesn't seem to be much joining the transom to the rest of the boat!
I
plan to leave a gap between the rudder case and the part behind (outboard
stiffener?) to take an unstayed mast if I decide to change to that later
on.
I
used a hand-held circular saw to cut slots across the remaining wood.
Then chisel and mallet.
